Chaos theory still has the ability to surprise, even when you've know about it for a while. It tends to make a bit of a mockery of medium, let alone long-range, weather forecasting.

The basic mathematics behind it are not that daunting for anyone with a technical education or a degree in maths. But inside the simplicity, the repetitive nature of chaos guarantees many surprises, one of which is just how beautiful these objects can be. Who would have thought that there could be such great poetry in mathematical motion?
