Paul Newman, a screen legend with a sideline in political idealism, died on 26 September 2008.
He will be remembered not only for his Greek god good looks and directing talent but also for ‘Newman’s Own’, the food company which he started in the basement of his home as a bit of a joke.
The company donated all its profits, more than $100 million, to charities around the world. Newman once quipped that he was embarrassed to see his salad-dressing grossing more than his movies.
Renowned for his talent, wit and generous heart that made him the star he was, he will be sorely missed.
