Juls White has an earth-moving moment in Mexico

She was serving cocktails at Chico’s in downtown Mexico City. I was leaning against the bar, chewing on a chilli, reflecting on how bored I was in my loveless marriage and career in dentistry. With the kids away at college doing their own stuff, this was the first real holiday I’d had on my own.

I asked her if she could get me una cerveza fria. Our eyes met for a brief instant, then locked into eternity. A tectonic plate shifted in my brain. I found myself feeling the feeling I’d been waiting all my life to feel. 

Back in Seattle I divorced my husband, sold my practice, returned to Mexico and bought a little hacienda near the Rivera Maya for Maria and me.
